Born and brought up in Ladbroke Grove and Harlesden, London, Ricky developed a passion for music while playing drums and steel-pans at the Ebony Youth Club. By the early eighties, he'd picked up DJ-ing from some of the elder members of his family, who were already well known as DJs, promoters and break dancers.
It was as a DJ for a sound-system called Studio Express that his selections got him the name DJ Ricky Smoove. As he progressed through stations such as Crystal FM, Irie FM, The Beat and First Love, all London based stations, he started to meet and interview some very high profile names: Joe (U.S.), Omar (U.K.), Capelton (Jam), Vanessa Simon (U.K.) to name a few.
As the eighties moved into the nineties, Ricky set his sights higher. Aided by his uncle passing him down some studio gear and armed with some classes on studio techniques, Ricky began his foray into the world of music production. Some of his early projects included artists such as Gemma Fox (U.K.), Femi (Sultans) and ADL (Blackness-Sweden).
In 1998 Ricky moved to Copenhagen, Denmark were his introduced his "Smoove" style of DJing to Denmark's 'Christiania Radio'. But he didn't stop there as his infectious sounds started to spread out to Copenhagen's trendiest bars such as ‘Barcelona', ‘Blue Budda', ‘Britannia', ‘Mantra', ‘Rust' and ‘NASA', amongst others. This exposure would eventually lead to Ricky co-hosting the urban music show "Tha Groove", which aired for two seasons on Denmark's ‘Cable Network Bio'.
This rise in profile led to Ricky Smoove getting involved with Danish stars Outlandish (No. 1 in Denmark with the tune ‘Aicha') and toured with them around Europe as support for artists such as Santana and Kelly Rowland, as well as attending various TV and Radio Showcases, award ceremonies, etc..
It was as Inner Circle Universal Recordings Ltd artist Jelone was on a writing trip to Denmark that Ricky Smoove was first introduced to Ice-Pr Ltd. He has since produced a number of tracks for I C U Recordings Ltd, for both Jelone and his label mate Natasha Drum.
As a producer, Ricky has remixed for the likes of: Joe (U.S.), Big Bro (U.K.), Outlandish (DK) etc. He has also been writing and working on original productions with Jelone (U.K.), Natasha Drum (U.K.) as mentioned, Mic Mulee (Blackness-Sweden), Noble (DK), Andy Vargas (Santana/U.S.) and Maylay Sparks (U.S.). This list just keeps growing and growing! These days, as well as managing artists such as T-Root (U.K.), Nadia Gattas (DK), Jonas (DK), Mic Mulee (Swe) and Aeon (DK), Ricky Smoove finds himself travelling between the U.K., the U.S., Denmark and Sweden; producing and promoting all his artists.
