Robert Logan started making music at the tender age of six, improvising on the piano while his dad accompanied him on the violin. His father introduced him to a lot of classical and Hungarian folk music, which he would listen to obsessively and often emulate on the piano. All this before any formal music lessons began....
He began to learn the piano and violin classically at the age of seven and by the age of 11, he got some notation software and a cheap keyboard and began writing music on the computer.
Robert Logan played keyboards in a number of bands at school and performed a few successful gigs with a band called "Aux".
At the age of 15/16 he met a viola player and art-film composer Sarah Sahandi and collaborated with her on a number of mysterious, picturesque, improvised pieces. Sarah introduced him to a producer named Ivor Guest, who is responsible for production on the new Grace Jones album, as well as composing music for numerous film scores.
He liked Robert's music and thought it deserved to be put out there, and so introduced him to SlowFoot Records. Work on his first album began during this period; it will be released soon under the title of "Cognessence" on SlowFoot Records. This also led to Robert doing drum programming and ambient soundscapes on the Grace Jones album.
Robert has collaborated with Ice Pr Ltd's singer-songwriter Andrea Black on a new album ‘Lizard Talk', which will be out soon. There was rarely a moment of rest as ideas just kept flowing continuously from both of them. Jason Price of Ice Pr Ltd was so impressed by Robert's work that he immediately signed him up to the artist roster.
Robert's music ranges from long ambient works, cut-up glitchy drill-‘n'-bass noisefests, through to 3-minute synth-pop explorations, and everything in between. Even if he's got a bit of an experimental head on him, he enjoys creating a bit of pop and hip hop now and then. It may sound like a cliché but he has an obsession with many forms of music, from early Church music through jazz, to avant-garde sound experimentalism, and strongly feels this is reflected in the music he makes.
Main influences include: Aphex Twin, Autechre, Orbital, Underworld, Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno, Kraftwerk, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Mike Oldfield, Radiohead, Vaughan Williams, Igor Stravinsky, Arvo Part, Steve Riech, Stockhausen, and Hungarian folk music.
