London band Pirate Casino may be playing rock, but they're singing soul. The bands' inspirations echo their own unique place in the "rock" genre, naming The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, anything Motown and Jimi Hendrix as their main influences; a wide spectrum within the musical world! Pirate Casino should not be marketed as something that's new, but rather recognized as being the next vital piece in the continuing Rock n' Roll saga.
The four-piece band consists of four members, James Gadd taking the roll as the voice of Pirate Casino, adding a soulful element with his smoky vocals and chunky guitar licks. Sam Yakoubi plays lead guitar, adding a vintage 60's sound and classic lead lines that weave through James' guitar riffs. Sean Gadd plays bass, sings back up vocals with Sam, and is one half of the dynamic songwriting duo, together with his brother James. Rupert Shreeve locks the whole unit together with his blinding drumming, allowing the band to execute a live performance filled with both precision and presence, a rare combination on today's live circuit.
Pirate Casino have played the Hammersmith Palais, the Roehampton Summer Ball, the Barfly, the Borderline, the Notting Hill Arts Club and the Village Venue in Dublin, to name a few places. With their debut album, "What You Came Here For" just completed, acclaimed lead singer and songwriter for 'The Arrows', Alan Merrill, says it best: "Watch out for Pirate Casino. They're the real thing, and are going to be a very big band."
