Black Rein grew up in and around London's East End, Bow area, a place he likes to refer to as the ‘Planet of the Chimps'. His love for Rap music dates back to the early 90's, ever since the era of Ice-T tapes.
During his teenage years Black Rein found himself involved with another sound: Drum & Bass (a.k.a. Jungle music) and Old Skool Garage. At 16, Black Rein decided to step away from the Jungle scene to persist with Hip-Hop, despite the fact that UK rap was not yet firmly established, so he had to act as his own inspiration. He translated the frustrations and anger of his own life experiences, as well as those surrounding him, into his music.
"Whenever something real happened on road, I channelled it through my lyrics."
He started to make beats in his bedroom on his Playstation ®, which he then transferred onto a karaoke machine to rap over to create mix tapes. With no real foundation in production, he turned to ICE-PR Ltd.
In 2005, Black Rein brought out his first project, ‘Planet Of The Chimps' mixtape/DVD. The DVD is filmed by Black Rein himself and shows life around Bow E3. The mixtape has received much air play from the Underground scene.
Black Rein, after having completed 50 new tracks with productions from France and America, feels in the best shape of his career. He has done various gigs promoting the mixtape tracks in Muswell Hill, Victoria Park as well as numerous nightclubs.
